The software below works in trial form and converts to the full system when you enter your licence number. When licensed it needs to be activated within 30 days or it will return to a trial version requiring you to enter your licence again.
Click on the links under Version for a history of changes and improvements to the software. If you have a current version your licence will work with any newer .xx versions you find on our site. These can be downloaded and will install over the existing version. For example capella 7.xx can be updated to any future 7.xx and will work with your current version 7 licence. Please email us if you have a non current version and wish to get the last revision to it (which is free) or you if need to install an old version back onto a new PC.

To send your music via the internet there is an automatic process built into capella which creates an index page and separate web pages for each page of score. This is a very simple way to create a set of web pages. However, if you wish to have a more flexible system so that people can easily download and print your music in the original quality, then the PDF format will ensure that the recipient will receive your music exactly as you laid it out. You can also restrict access so people can view the score but not print or copy from it. Note you need to select 'embed font' to ensure the recipient sees the score with the capella music font. To hear the score People can download the free capella reader from our website which will open and play back the score just as capella does. You can also produce MP3 files of the score using capella playAlong.
Installing capella 7 for the first time If you accept the defaults capella will install under the heading 'capella software'. The intention is that capella-scan etc. will also be under this main heading. Therefore, after installation, when you click on Start and Programs you should look for the capella software heading and not for capella 7. capella 7 now includes the necessary elements of Python, so Python does not need to be installed separately.
Upgrading to capella 7 and removing the old version After installing capella 7 you will have two entries on your list of programs - the old capella and this new capella 7. You can uninstall the old version by clicking on the entry in Program Files. You will then see an option to uninstall as well as to start the program. Alternatively you can go into Add/Remove Programs under Windows Control Panel and do the same.
Note Uninstalling capella does not remove any of your music files that you have created with capella. However we would always recommend that you back these up first, as I am sure you have learnt that with computers nothing can be guaranteed! Uninstalling the old version can in some circumstance remove the music font. If this happens, re-install capella 7.
Usually your web browser will give you the choice to Run or Save the program. Run will download our installation program to a temporary folder creaed by the browser. The browser will then run the install module in our software and after our software is installed the browser will 'tidy up' by removing the downloaded installation program. The software will be installed, but should you wish to re-install the software you will need to download it again. If you choose to Save the program the install module will be saved to the folder that you select and you must then Run the installation program. The simplest way to Run the installation is to double click on it.
